Devlog2: Prototype Update


Hi Everyone!  


First of all, we have a name for our game and from now on it will be referenced as Stay Still. The name is simple and descriptive for the type of game we have in the making.

We have been working on the prototype last week. A lot has been done regarding the making of the AI, game mechanics, defining art style, working on models and creating a  block out of the level.
 

ART

Art Style Changes

We decided on a slightly more detailed art style with more realistic textures instead of  stylized ones to maintain the right mood and atmosphere. The art style is inspired by Little Nightmares and Silent Hill with grimey, desaturated textures and cold colors.



Level

We have designed a map for the abandoned hospital where our game takes place. Overall, it has several different areas for the players to search weapon parts. This kind of bigger map adds some difficulty for the players, requiring them to spend some time exploring their surroundings.





Models

Some example models have been made for the prototype. We have taken into consideration the shapes and style we want to maintain in our game.  


Also models of the weapon parts has been modeled and added to the game.



Soundwaves

We have made particles to visualize the soundwaves. The intensity of these particles varies depending on the intensity of the sound.



   

CODING  

Game mechanics 

We made a four player setup in a split screen configuration, with inputs for movement: walking, running, and crouch-walking; as well as a rock throwing mechanic and the ability to grab/drop an object.  We added collectable weapon parts, spawning them at pre-determined locations at random and the drop zone to bring the weapon parts to. 

AI

Regarding AI we have been setting up the framework alongside learning how it works. We have started to make basic tasks for the AI. A search pattern has been made for the AI to follow, and it follows the sound that players make and attacks them if they're close. 

 

WHAT’S NEXT

For this week we are putting our prototype to test and we wish to continue to the production of the game.
