Devlog 6: Starting our second sprint!

Hi everyone!

It's been a while since the last update, but we've been working hard! Many more animations have been made, some UI elements have been drawn, player input has been refined, and much more!

Art

It's been a very long and hard struggle, but we've been working hard on the lighting in our level. This took especially long, since without a lighting artist, we needed to learn how lighting works in Unreal, but we've made astounding progress!

Massive shoutout to Ricca for spending a ton of time learning how to use the lighting in Unreal Engine!

We've also started designing the UI, trying to make it clear what the different powerups in the game will do:

We're very close to finishing the first level we made, and we're planning on making multiple levels for the players to play in and have fun!

Programming

So far, the gameplay itself is going really well. We've finetuned the player movement, added some nice player feedback to the powerups and the level, however, we don't have any way of showing which player is which. Therefore, we've started work on a player selection screen, where the players can select their own player character, and it will make clear which player is controlling which monster.

It took a lot of time figuring out how to integrate the character animations into the player UI, since Unreal Engine does not support it by default.

We're making a lot of progress, and we hope to see you next week!
