Devlog 9: Time to clean things up!


Greetings everyone!

After the production comes the polish phase. It's finally time to add the icing on the cake to improve the overall quality of the game!

Staring off with level transitions. Indeed the game used to switch levels instantly. Now we added a fade-out/fade-in to black to make the transitions smoother. Also the winner of the round is now displayed clearly on the screen before the fade-out.

As you probably have noticed, some extra details where added to the level: some sills to the windows, trims around the walls, and some cables running through the entire level.



Another change happened in the UI. Indeed, the power-up icons now match the color of their respective syringe for better readability. Furthermore, the scare bars got updated as well for two reason. Firstly to make them less bulky and fit the overall style better. Secondly, they now have different variants to make them match the selected character, to increase the readability of the UI, making it easier to find the correct information.



Further tweaks where made to the animations. Some where remade to increase the quality, and they re finally all implemented in the game.

Other changes where made to the player itself. The scare bar now charges faster, the minimum opacity got decreased, and the curve used for interpolation of light intensity and opacity got changed to give a longer phase of "low visibility" before a steeper climb.

And last but not least, playtesting happened a lot, in order to find those random small bugs creeping around and a bunch of them got fixed!

With all of this I almost forgot to mention our remade end screen, now showing the overall winner plus giving you the options to restart a new game or quitting the game!


No sound polishing happened so far, as it will be my personal focus in the upcoming days.
